18 Mar Citizen Science Day
Saturday, April 13 @ Noon – 3 PM
A partnership between Zionsville Parks & Recreation and the Library
Join us for the inaugural Zionsville Citizen Science Day, where volunteers can join scientists to answer real-world questions. Learn about upcoming science-based programs and research projects where you can contribute or volunteer! Several organizations will be on hand to share information and materials: Marion University ECOLAB, STEM Connection, Nature Conservancy, Zion Nature Center, and Amos Butler Audubon.
Odds are, there is a citizen science project that coincides with a hobby, interest, or curiosity that you may have. Available fields are diverse and, for many projects, you don’t have to go farther than their own backyard to contribute!
This is an exciting partnership between Zionsville Parks and Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library. Special presentations will be offered at the Library and Zion Nature Sanctuary, so please check the event venue when registering. Most events are designed for adults and children, with the exception of the last event of the day, which is for adults: Turn Your Garden into a Certified Wildlife Habitat.

iNaturalist is an online social network of people who help each other learn about nature. You can use it to record your own observations, get help with identifications, and collaborate with others. Since 2017, Zionsville Parks has been using iNaturalist to collect information on the plants and animals found in our parks. Park Naturalist Mindy Murdock will run you through the steps to set up your own iNaturalist account as we explore and collect date in the Zion Nature Sanctuary. You will need to bring a smartphone, iPad or other internet ready electronic device.
4 – 5 PM
Garden designer Amy Mullen covers the essentials for transforming your urban or suburban garden into a haven for wildlife. She will share excellent choices for food, habitat plants, and more.
We hope to see you at our inaugural Citizen Science Day Saturday, April 13 from Noon – 3 PM!
